The R&D maximises the skills of third-party developers by providing high quality technical support, creating specialist tools and utilities, and creating showcase products that highlight the capabilities of the PlayStation®.

The group reports directly to SCEI R&D, headquartered in Tokyo.

It includes a Developer Support team, and an R&D group and is responsible for developing this site and the others used by the SCEE Developer and Publisher communities. The R&D takes on the vast majority of Graduates recruited by SCEE and includes opportunities for industrial placements from Computer Science courses.

Students

SCEE R&D usually hire a small number of undergraduates to work either over the summer, or for a year's industrial placement; Student Engineer placements are ideal for Computer Science undergraduates with experience of C/C++/Assembler, preferably studying some modules related to the video games industry.

If you're considering a future in the games industry, Skillset provide invaluable industry information such as job profiles and training information, which can help you prepare yourself for obtaining a job in the industry.

Skillset have also developed an accreditation programme for art, design, and programming degrees that are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the video game industry. The accreditation has been done in conjuction with the Computer Games Skills Forum, a body of companies who all recognise the value of improving and supporting academic qualifications for the video game industry.
